Brahman

The Australian Brahman combines high levels of adaption with high production potential and it’s tolerance to heat is a major economic factor in tropical beef production.

The unique digestive system of the Brahman allows it to perform on low protein, low quality feed than other, less adapted breeds. The Australian Brahman’s resistance to heat is due in part because of:

  • The dark pigmentation of its skin
  • An increased number of efficient sweat glands
  • Sleek, pliant and reflective coat
  • Slow metabolic rate compared to other breeds
  • Their sleek coat also makes it tick attachment more difficult and chemicals in their sweat glands act as a repellent
  • Their immune response also benefits the Brahman through a resistance to tropical internal parasites
